Windsor Castle is assumed to be the largest lived in castles around at this time & the oldest in continuous inhabitation (over 900 years). It’s one of the Queen’s 3 formal homes, and is repeatedly alleged to be the Queens most favourite home. The Royal colours flutters over the Round Tower of Windsor Castle every time Queen Elizabeth 2nd is at the residence - nevertheless, at alternative times, the Union Jack banner soars as normal.
Samuel Pepys once commented the Castle to be “the most loving castle in the world.” That was considered in 1666, and the same can be said still.

The launch of Windsor lies in the beginning of the 7th century Saxon village of Windlesora, where the recent day dwellings of Old Windsor can be located. The settlement of Windsor is rightly recognised as the “New Windsor” - the word “new” being referenced in a strictly loose way!
Windsor Castle at the outset was put up by the infamous William the Conqueror, on account of his raid of England in ten-sixty-six. The original structure was put up from timber with gravel fortifications. Palace held a noticeable strategic position on a tall mound on top of the River Thames, and was a division of a number of of castles around London, with the Tower of London, one whole days trip away, at its middle.
The Castle was soon restored in stone, and rose in value over history. Henry the 2nd put up the Round Tower & the original stone outer wall. After the English Civil War, the Castle’s primary function became that of a royal home. The Castle has remained generally unchanged ever since the start of the 19th century, apart from the renovation job that followed the awful fire.
