Some Starting Job Interview Tips

  • Don’t smoke, chew gum, or eat garlic earlier in the day.
  • Wear suitable interview clothes.
  • Take copies of your curriculum Vitae with you.
  • Arrive ahead of time for your employment interview.
  • Any applications handed before the interview begins, are to be filled in as accurately as possible, make sure they match the information in your curriculum Vitae and Cover Letter.
  • Invariably greet the interviewer by his/her surname and endeavour to pronounce it properly.
  • Use a good firm handshake.
  • Look alert and engaged.
  • Scan the room one time at the start and then keep your eyes on the interviewer.
  • Wait until you are offered a chair before you sit down.Emphasize your accomplishments.
  • Always behave professionally and if anything beyond your control occurs, display a sense of humor.
  • Be enthusiastic and demonstrate it in your replies and body language.
  • Answer the interview question with more than a simple yes or no but try not to go over the sixty second limit.
  • Avoid at all cost complaining about your current or past employer in your interview.
  • Do not answer questions about party politics or organized religion if the post is totally unconnected.
  • Don’t raise wage discussions on your first interview - this maybe done on the second interview.
  • Ensure that you do your wage research before hand.
