A Few Clues on Health Safety Risk Assessment

It’s thought in a significant amount of companies that, by providing staff with training in occupational health and safety, they are adequately equipped to cope with a crisis. Realistically though, training in health and safety regulatory affairs just is not adequate. Equipping employees, choosing good supervision and supporting frequent safety drills are all important factors. Someone in a supervisory job has a much greater role to play than simply supervising the floor. Whomever you employ as the supervisor has to be a good communicator and believe that safety training is important. In addition to checking compliance with health and safety regulations, the employee supervising must also check that each employee works well. This is a difficult task. An accomplished supervisor needs to have broad knowledge of both the industry best practice and manufacturing operations not to mention an in depth familiarity with safety laws, the identification of risks, and first aid.

Just providing basic training in health and safety is not sufficient for your employees. Your staff have to practise risk assessment and the identification of hazardous areas. Staff in addition require a good comprehension of the steps necessary to remedy the situation and how to act if the unexpected happens. Employees are only totally prepared when everything they have learned has become routine. Training is by all accounts not enough without the necessary safety gear. When employees discover they don’t have gear they need, or find out that equipment is damaged in an emergency, then all the education they have already finished will have been in vain.

It’s a good idea to schedule regular checks to make sure you have all the gear you might need and also that it is working properly. If you have a problem with your safety equipment, have it repaired or call out a maintenance professional as a matter of urgency.

Appropriate health and safety education is important for the health of your staff, however they must have the proper equipment, frequent practise drills, and an experienced supervisor who can get everyone charged up about being healthy at work. Then observing all the safety regulations be a natural component of life in the workplace instead of an inconvenience for staff to think about constantly.
